We’re going to have to pin down: this is what the Red Devils’ list could look like for the shocks against Italy and France

Several stars of the squad could miss this international break, which could push the coach to opt for new profiles. We take stock.

De Bruyne, the irreplaceable

The two biggest questions actually concern two stars of the group: Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. Injured, the first city should well be forfeited. The second should also ignore it, wishing to concentrate on his physical preparation at the club, while continuing his reflection on his future in the selection. So who will replace them?

For Kevin De Bruyne, the natural replacement is Youri Tielemans. But a player like Arne Engels seems well placed to complete the midfield line by once again joining this list, which he left precipitously last September. The Celtic player is having a good start to the season. Charles De Ketelaere and Loïs Openda, taken over in September, will be in the group. Will Michy Batshuayi come back to fill in? It’s possible, but unlikely given the choices made last month.

A surprise on the wings?

Alexis Saelemaekers, taken over in September, should also be unavailable. On the wings, Domenico Tedesco could therefore rely on a player like Malick Fofana. If he is not yet an indisputable starter in Lyon, the young 19-year-old talent has shown his qualities and would bring speed and technique to this line. Unless there are any surprises, Jérémy Doku, Johan Bakayoko, Dodi Lukebakio will be there. Julien Duranville’s presence is not guaranteed, but if he is physically ready, he should be.

You shouldn’t expect any big changes in the rest of the group either. Injured yesterday against Bayern Munich, Amadou Onana is uncertain and a player like Aster Vranckx could benefit if there were a problem with the Villa midfielder. Defensively either, no surprises are expected. Maxim De Cuyper, recovered from his injury, will undoubtedly be there to relieve the Belgians on the left of the defense.
