Bad news keeps piling up for Coelacanths

On October 11 and 15, 2024, the Comoros football team will challenge Tunisia twice for qualifying for CAN 2025 in Morocco. In addition to the withdrawals of players playing abroad, the Coelacanths are not certain of playing the second match at home against the Cartage Eagles.

The Comoros football team, one of the revelations of the African continent in recent years, will play on October 11 and 15, 2024 against Tunisia to secure its place at the CAN 2025 in Morocco.

The challenge is immense for the Coelacanths. In addition to the high adversity, given the quality of the Tunisian team, the green and white will have to do without two, or even three players playing in Europe and, perhaps, a return match at home.

This week, Stéfano Cusin, the Italian coach of the archipelago football team, learned that striker Mohamed El Fardou Ben Nabouhane (player for Zeleznicar Pancevo in Serbia) and Raimane Daou (Olympique de ) are out for good reason of injury. He could also be deprived of Youssouf M’Changama, the FC scorer. He takes exams after leaving the pitch prematurely against , La Gazette des Comoros tells us.

Added to these significant absences is the possibility of being deprived of the home match. On October 11, the team will be in Tunisia to challenge the Cartage Eagles. Four days later, on the 15th, she was to welcome Tunisia on home soil at the Maluzini stadium (Malouzini) in Moroni. At the end of September 2024, the commissioner of the Confederation of African Football, Emmanuel Kandé, came to inspect the infrastructure. If the inspector does not give his approval for the match to be played in this venue, the Comorian Football Federation must propose a fallback solution as highlighted in the FFC press release published by Habariza-Comoros.

For this essential meeting, the Comoros could be deprived of their 13th man. Certainly inhabitants from the archipelago live in Ivory Coast, a possible host land for October 15, but the setting and the fervor of the spectators will be lacking.
