Brendan Gallagher’s heat when he hears PK Subban at the Blue Pocket

Brendan Gallagher must have been beside himself listening to PK Subban’s recent statements on the show La Poche Bleue.

Gallagher always viewed Subban as a self-centered player, only concerned with his personal image.

Their differences within the Montreal locker room were never really a secret, and the tensions between the two players contributed to the famous visit of Gallagher and Max Pacioretty to Marc Bergevin’s office to request the trade of the man they perceived as their “bedroom enemy”.

During his appearance on Pat McAfee’s show on ESPN, Subban made remarks that certainly made Gallagher cringe.

Subban explained that many of his teammates were uncomfortable with his flamboyant personality, saying that hockey culture does not tolerate players with strong personalities like his.

Although he did not directly name Gallagher, those who know the history of the Montreal Canadiens and the behind-the-scenes of that era know exactly who Subban was referring to.

For Subban, his personality and style of play have often been seen as problematic by his teammates, but he defends himself by saying he never tried to put himself above the team.

He took advantage of his time at the Blue Pocket to settle scores with Gallagher (and Pacioretty).

However, when rewatching the video, it’s hard not to think of Gallagher and Pacioretty, two players who were directly involved in the discussions that led to the Subban trade in 2016.

Since Georges Laraque publicly revealed that Gallagher and Pacioretty actively conspired with Bergevin to push Subban out, the public perception of Gallagher has changed dramatically.

Long perceived as a leader and a warrior on the ice, he is now seen by some fans as the instigator of the departure of one of the most popular players in recent CH history.

Today, Subban comes back to it again by evoking these past tensions.

For Gallagher, this couldn’t have come at a worse time. While his performances decline and criticism of him increases, here he is once again singled out, this time indirectly by Subban, on a major network like ESN, then on the Blue Pocket.

The fans are no longer sparing him, and the prospect of a contract buyout next summer is becoming more and more likely.

He could finally leave the media storm he finds himself in, and rest far from the critics and people who say he is DONE.

But in the meantime, Gallagher must endure a new offensive, even subtle, from his former teammate, who does not seem ready to let this old story die.
