At Anderlecht, since the departure of Brian Riemer, we have been waiting to know who will be the next coach of Anderlecht. For the moment, several names have been mentioned but nothing has come to fruition.
The names that come up most often are those of Mark van Bommel and Karel Geraerts. But there is one quite surprising one that has been added to the list drawn up by analysts. This coach is none other than the one that Anderlecht will meet on its road this Thursday.
“Many would like me to be the coach of Anderlecht”
Asked about the subject at a press conference, the Real Sociedad coach reacted. “Many would like me to become coach of Anderlecht,” said Imanol Alguacil with a smile. A coach who was quite criticized after his team’s complicated start to the season in La Liga.
“I’m currently under contract with the best team in the world. So it won’t be for now, but who knows what the future holds. In the long term, why not coach Anderlecht, after all it’s a historic club”, he adds all the same.

Aged 53, Alguacil has been in office since 2018 and this Thursday’s match against Anderlecht will be his 283rd at the helm of the Basque team. Before that, he was assistant coach of the second team at Real Sociedad, which made him a real clubman.
At the moment, it is still unclear who Riemer’s successor will be. In the meantime, it is David Hubert who continues his mission as interim coach. A coach who does not plan to stay even if he were to achieve good results at Real Sociedad and against Standard.
If Sporting does not find the ideal candidate for the international break, Hubert could however stay in post for a few more weeks. But the intention is not to keep him until the end of the season.
