The Usap winger is like his team, in full swing as evidenced by the success against Clermont. While the Catalans started their season on several aspects, Lucas Dubois is also counting on this euphoria in order to prolong the virtues demonstrated against Pau.
Lucas, it was only a matter of time, the content offered in front of the ASM finally lived up to your expectations?
We were all keen to catch up, the first three were really complicated for us in terms of content and commitment. Against Castres, we started by rectifying the situation. Then coming back to Aimé-Giral, with our supporters, the whole group made sure to start the season as it should.

Let’s talk about the game, we felt connections established between all the lines, this rugby of movement which is your trademark?
Of course we like this rugby, we perhaps thought too much about that at the start of the championship and not enough about other ingredients. Against Clermont, the key word was to move forward and win our duels. We all enjoy this standing and hand-held game, but we raised our cursor to the intensity to be able to perform it too.
The downside remains the heavy injuries (Tuilagi, Van Tonder and McIntyre), the group has not been spared in recent weeks?
It’s true that we win with style, and we have these three serious injuries that occur. Especially since they will be unavailable for a long time and all three are major assets of our squad. Now we have to think about those who will be there to replace them and who will have the necessary qualities to take over.
Arlettaz’s phone call
This summer, you were called up by Fabien Galthié with the Blues and were selected, even without being official, against Uruguay. What do you take away from this first experience?
This was not necessarily expected! When the first list of 32 players came out, we told ourselves that it was not for us. Then, I have Patrick Arlettaz who calls me, as a nice wink, after the semi-finals to pack my bags for Marcoussis to join Argentina. I was able to show myself in a matchstill not knowing if this selection will be official or not. But wearing the blue tunic and singing the Marseillaise will remain engraved for life.
You recently extended it for three seasons, was the common desire to continue the story shared?
I’ve been at the club for a few years, the project has evolved with Franck Azéma and the president is putting things in place to grow. We feel that there is a desire to install the Usap in the heights, and this happened very naturally between everyone, and extending until 2028 represents great pride for me.
Pau arrives this Saturday at the Stade Aimé-Giral, an obligatory success to validate the last result. How do you plan to go about doubling the stake?
Facing a very good team, a bit like us, with perhaps a little more occupation and combat in their game, we will have to be precise in the rucks and meeting points. Up front, it should sting, we know their qualities, it’s up to us to be as relevant as possible to put ourselves in good conditions and continue our momentum.
