Champions League: PSG disappoints, of Edimilson Fernandes delights

If Saint-Germain suffered the cannon fire from Arsenal (2-0), the thunder of struck again in Salzburg (0-4). After Tuesday’s matches, the surprising Bretons of Edimilson Fernandes find themselves provisionally 2nd in the Champions League.

Without Ousmane Dembélé, punished, PSG suffered the law of the Gunners – always as skillful on set pieces – while its goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was very clumsy with his failed exit in front of Leandro Trossard and his vigilance deceived by a mischievous free kick by Bukayo Saka.

Luis Enrique’s team suffered its first defeat of the season and returned to the league stage, 18th out of 36 pending Wednesday’s matches.

Brest, on the other hand, is still on cloud nine, in 2nd place. Thanks in particular to a double from Abdallah Sima, the only club in history with 100% victories in European Cups (two out of two) outclassed in Salzburg a decidedly lackluster Red Bull, already swept aside by Sparta Prague (3-0) in the first match.

Until its next meeting at Guingamp – its stadium is not approved – against Bayer Leverkusen, the team of Edimilson Fernandes (starter and replaced in the 63rd minute Tuesday evening) is pursuing its dream.

The Breton club will remember that it was first in the ranking at 8:40 p.m. while waiting for the evening matches. It was doubled in the evening by Borussia Dortmund, the only other team to have six points. Gregor Kobel and his teammates tore apart Celtic Glasgow (7-1) in one of the two evening matches between former C1 winners, with a hat-trick from Karim Adeyemi and a double from Serhou Guirassy.

Inter Milan beat Red Star Belgrade (4-0) in Tuesday’s other duel between teams allowed to sew a cut with big ears on their jersey sleeves. Yann Sommer thus offers himself a second shutout in a row in the competition. The third match of the 2nd day between former trophy winners, Aston Villa-Bayern Munich, is played on Wednesday.

On the side of the tenors, the Manchester City of Manuel Akanji (starter and replaced in the 61st) made up for its missed start against Inter (0-0) at Slovan Bratislava (0-4).

In the other evening poster, with Arsenal-PSG, Bayer Leverkusen beat AC Milan (1-0) of Noah Okafor – who remained on the bench – thanks to a goal from Nigerian Victor Boniface. Granit Xhaka’s team is 3rd, but in terms of the number of goals scored (6 points, +5, 6 goals scored against 5), it remains behind Brest.

Finally, Stuttgart was held in check by Sparta Prague (1-1). Substitute at kick-off, Fabian Rieder entered at the very end of the match (84th), without managing to be decisive.
