Autumn is often conducive to the first controversies, and other upheavals which Paris Saint-Germain is particularly accustomed to. Undefeated since the start of the season, the Parisians traveled to London on Tuesday, deprived of Ousmane Dembélé, dismissed by his coach Luis Enrique for reasons announced as being disciplinary.

A choice which inevitably destabilized the sporting balance of a group which appeared to be shaky at the Emirates Stadium, asphyxiated by the placement game proposed by their opponents in the evening (2-0). For its second Champions League match this season, the capital club fell, uninspired, weighed down by defensive errors and a lack of offensive drive.

For the remainder of the group phase, Luis Enrique’s troops will host PSV Eindhoven on October 22, then Atlético Madrid on November 6.

What to remember

Leading figure of an Arsenal built around his talent, the “baby-Gunner” shone with his accuracy and his ability to direct the game. His goal – unintentional – marked the success of his team, and magnified his performance.

1-0, 20e : Kai Havertz is served by Leandro Trossard at the penalty spot, with a bell-shaped cross which he hits with the top of his head. He deceives the attention of the defenders, and the reflexes of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

2-0, 35e : Bukayo Saka takes charge of the free kick he caused. His cross finds no one, but goes into the Parisian cage, because it was avoided by Bradley Barcola and Marquinhos…

  • The turning point of the match. Gianluigi Donnarumma injured at the start of the match.

The Italian goalkeeper from Paris Saint-Germain made his return to the Paris goal, against Arsenal, after an injury to his right thigh in mid-September. At the start of the match, a strong exit against Gabriel Martinelli visibly triggered pain again, and required the intervention of the trainers, without him having to leave the field.

There is no doubt that the supporters of Gunners greatly appreciated the performance of theirs. If the first period had the merit of offering its pair of goals, the second saw the London club protect its success, and the Parisians pull out the oars to get back into the game. On our A to E sports rating scale, this matchup gets a solid “C.”
