Football club, brasserie, cultural complex… Why Antoine Griezmann’s family invests so much in Mâcon, “the most beautiful city in France”

Antoine Griezmann’s family continues to invest in Mâcon, his hometown. Town hall brasserie, city Football club, cultural and sports complex… Those close to the 2018 world champion continue to diversify their activities “in the most beautiful city in France.” Says Théo Griezmann!

It is a unique complex which opened its doors in Sancé, near Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire), at the end of 2023. A room dedicated to fast close combat, a sport derived from airsoft. And the project is led by Théo Griezmann, the little brother of Antoine Griezmann. As a reminder, the latter was born and raised in Mâcon.

The creation of this complex is synonymous with new investment for the Griezmann family in the Mâconnais. Several months ago,His parents bought the town hall brewery. Maud Griezmann, the sister, set up the “Matilda” in the city center, a cultural complex with a performance hall, a bookstore, a vinyl space, a bar and a restaurant.

Finally, Alain Griezmann, the father, is president of UF Mâconnais, the city’s football club. Since taking office in 2020, the club has experienced two rises in three years. Today it is in National 3, the fifth division of French football.

A list of establishments which continues to fill up for the family of the 2018 world champion. Théo Griezmann recognizes it, setting up his project in Mâcon allows him to benefit from his brother’s fame. “Here, ohas a different aura than elsewhere. People trust us a lot more compared to what my brother was able to develop. It’s certain that the name helps, and it would have been more complicated for me to impose myself in Lyon or Paris.”

Installing this complex in Mâcon also means enjoying a financial advantage. “The price is much more attractive here than in Lyon or Paris. And we had quite a few investors in the Mâconnais who wanted to support us in this project.”

But above all, it was the choice of the heart that pushed the footballer’s brother to set up this project in Burgundy. “With my brother, we traveled the world a lot and we realized that it is in Mâcon that we feel the best. I could have done this in Lyon or Paris but I am very attached to the city. Seeing people I’ve known since I was little come to the complex, it immediately has a different flavor.”

Antoine Griezmann’s little brother feels indebted to his hometown. “We haven’t always had this success in theto family. We have difficulty, we struggled when we were young and when Antoine left. I think we want to give back to the people who believed in us from the beginning, to develop the city and for it to evolve at the same time as us.”

We want to develop the city even more with the things we bring. Leaving the most beautiful city in France is out of the question!

The Griezmann family invests a lot in Mâcon, and does not intend to leave. “Mâcon is our town, it’s where we grew up. Antoine constantly comes back here because we have too many family ties. It was still a trauma to see my brother leave at 13. We stayed united here and we don’t want to leave and relive this trauma of leaving the family here”reveals Théo Griezmann.

For Mâcon, these numerous investments are logically very well received by the city. Sports assistant, Jean Payebien has witnessed the meteoric rise of the Mâconnais Football Union, since Alain Griezmann took up the post in 2020. A development linked to a financial investment by the family.

These establishments benefit Mâcon, which allows the city to benefit from a new clientele. “Her daughter has a complex that works well, because it’s innovative but also because it’s Maud Griezmann. There’s has an impact on people from the outside, we don’t come to the city hall bar, we come to the Griezmanns.”

“Gents ask us “where is Alain Griezmann’s bar?”There are people who are passing through and who will stop specifically for that, so there is inevitably an impact“, explains Jean Paybien. “It’s a beautiful image that allows a certain population to move more towards their businesses or structures.“

The town hall is delighted, the Griezmanns too, but what do the residents think? According to Théo Griezmann and the city, these investments are generally well received. “USome people think it’s good, it allows the sites to evolve. And others say that for them it’s easy with Antoine Griezmann’s money. But most Mâconnais welcome the improvements. There is a large population that adheres to these new products.”

Some people believe that it is easy to set up these projects with the money earned by the footballer. “The easiest thing for me would have been to do nothing and rely on what the family has learned, but I’m not like that.”reacts Théo Griezmann. “The name sure helps. But people appreciate that everyone has their own small business. There is something for all tastes and for everyone. I think in general, people are happy.”
