Simona de Silvestro, from the road to the ice: “I always dreamed of the Olympic Games” – rts.ch

A recognized figure in motorsport, Vaudoise Simona de Silvestro has launched into… bobsleigh. She now hopes to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina under the Italian colors. RTSsport went to meet him.

After taking part six times in the famous Indianapolis 500, Simona de Silvestro (36 years old) embarked on her Olympic quest. “I always dreamed of the Gamesshe whispers. Three years ago, I told myself that if I really wanted to try to achieve this dream, I had to do it now.”

So let’s head to the bobsleigh tracks, with our eye on the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina, in which the Vaudoise intends to take part under the colors of Italy, her father’s country. The mission is not easy, but the pilot is at ease. “It must be said that a lot of things are similar to driving a carshe continues. It’s certainly a little different in terms of the driver, but I’m used to the speed and I notice quite quickly if I’ve done something stupid…

Surrounded by former Swiss bobsledder Beat Hefti – Olympic champion in 2-man bobsled in 2014 – and his partner Martina Favretto and supported by the Italian team, Simona de Silvestro could well shine in February 2026.It’s a bet for ussaid by chef Maurizio Oioli. We hope to be able to transform her from a car driver into a bobsled driver…

We will know in less than 18 months if the bet is a winner, which would be a nice wink, since the pilot’s family is from Cortina, one of her ancestors having been the first to climb the Civetta, a summit of the Dolomites. In the meantime, Simona de Silvestro is training hard – “I didn’t know that you also had to learn to run“, she says – and plays humble.
