Servette beats Lausanne and continues to aim high

The Lake derby reminded us of an implacable truth: despite its current limitations, Servette FC still has a good lead over Lausanne-Sport.

At the Stade de Genève in front of 12,185 spectators, the Grenat won 1-0 to regain their leadership position before Sunday’s matches. This success was acquired by a success from Derek Kutesa in the 32nd minute. The international appeared at the far post to exploit a deflection from Alexis Antunes on a corner kicked by Julian von Moos. Despite his 2m01, goalkeeper Karlo Letica showed guilty passivity in this action.

A very sad Lausanne

This success is beyond any discussion. With Kutesa, Antunes and Timothé Cognat without forgetting defense boss Steve Rouiller, Servette FC had in its ranks not only four excellent footballers but also four real leaders. Leaders that we looked for in vain in the opposing camp. The face presented by Lausanne-Sport in the meeting most awaited by its supporters since the start of the season was as sad as an endless winter. After this meeting, the declared objective of a place in the top 6 seems very unrealistic for the Vaudois.

Even with its outdated defense around captain Noë Dussenne who always fell behind, Ludovic Magnin’s team was nevertheless able to maintain the hope of an equalizer until the final whistle. The Genevans did not, in fact, know how to drive the point home. The fault is a lack of efficiency in the last gesture, bad luck with a cross for Kutesa and the… VAR which canceled a success by Enzo Crivelli on an action where he had ridiculed Dussenne and his friend from the central axis Karim Sow.

But faced with an opponent who only had one chance with Alban Adjini’s lost face-off in front of Jérémy Frick in the 42nd minute, the Grenat did not harbor any real fears. On Saturday, Lausanne-Sport couldn’t really scare anyone.
