Formula 1 | Coulthard compares Norris to Senna, Schumacher and Hill

David Coulthard was full of praise for Lando Norris’ victory in Singapore last weekend, which he said was similar to the successes of the greatest, whether Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton.

“It’s a masterclass” Coulthard told Channel 4. “A brush without removing a turn shows that he mastered it to perfection. The only one that really surprised me was at the end of the lap, when he had a blockage and ended up touch the barrier.”

“Otherwise, it’s perfect. What a performance! Man and machine in perfect harmony. He was like that from the first practice session on Friday. He got the better of Oscar who did a very good job, took it back to get on the podium.”

“It’s almost as if Lando is so humble and so approachable that he doesn’t realize the greatness and importance of his performances at the moment. I want to put him in the category of Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton at his best We can all win a grand prize with a little luck, but this was exceptional.

According to Coulthard, Red Bull could have the same fate in store for Sergio Pérez as Daniel Ricciardo: “He was brilliant in Baku, but one swallow doesn’t make a spring. A good result is not what you expect, even if he is the number two driver of this team.”

“There was a lot of relief, I think, after Baku. And then here it’s a bit of a reality check. If he doesn’t continue to score solid points until the end of the year , so, like Daniel Ricciardo who was shown the exit door, it could be the same situation for Pérez.”
