Serie A: Matteo Guendouzi and Lazio Rome bring Torino back to earth

Having topped Serie A last weekend for the first time since February 1977, Toro only stayed there for a week after conceding its first defeat of the season in the league this Sunday, against Lazio Rome. Eliminated from the Italian Cup on Wednesday by Empoli (2-1), already at home, the Piedmontese club therefore had a bad week. He ceded the leadership chair to Juventus Turin (12 points), which ended a worrying series of three draws on Saturday with a convincing success on the field of Genoa (3-0).

Torino fell to 4th place, overwhelmed by AC Milan and Inter who, like him, total eleven points after their success respectively against Lecce (3-0) and Udinese (3-2). Against Lazio, the team coached since this season by Paolo Vanoli, never found the solution, conceding a first goal in the 8th minute on a shot from Matteo Guendouzi, served by another former Marseillais, Nuno Tavares.

The Franco-Senegalese Boulaye Dia doubled the lead (2-0, 60th), before the Scotsman Ché Adamas revived Torino (2-1, 67th). But barely entered the game, Tijjani Noslin brought the score to 3-1 (89th), before a second goal from Torino, for the honor, in added time. “Our first half really made me angry, we played much better after the break. It’s a shame because when we play like we did in the second half, we can put any team in difficulty,” analyzed Vanoli. Lazio, ’s future opponent in the Europa League on Thursday, is provisionally placed in 6th place with ten points.
