Former JPL coach sees worst for Antwerp derby – All football

The Antwerp derby will be played today at Bosuil. Beerschot will try to win its first victory of the season, even if the promoted team is far from being the favorite.

For Beerschot, the return to the elite is going very badly, with a coach (Dirk Kuyt) under pressure, and heated supporters who demanded a reaction. Antwerp is the huge favorite in this Antwerp derby which it will play at home at Bosuil, facing a dying promotion who is bottom with just one point on the clock. Despite this, a derby remains a special match and the Rats could surprise in the rival’s den.

Peter Maes is currently active among our neighbors, and has regained great colors at the head of Willem II, in the Netherlands. Before that, he had been coach of Beerschot for a short period in 2021. The latter believes that the Rats have little chance of winning the derby.

“I fear there is no real hope for them at Bosuil. But it’s still football. I was fired from my job there after a series of one point in 21, Dirk Kuyt in is one in 24, at least he lasted longer than me But it will be a losing battle, I fear,” the Belgian coach told De Zondag.

A workforce not sufficiently armed for the elite

For him, the problem is simply at the level of the core: “There is not enough quality for the JPL, it’s as simple as that. It’s a real shame for such a beautiful club with such great players. supporters who have always continued to support the club But there has never been continuity or stability.

“On the other hand, the club has survived everything that has happened in recent years, even the first provincial. But only thanks to its supporters. It will be the same today. We have nothing left only to hope that their reaction will be contained in the event of defeat”, concludes Maes.
