Hockey: Fribourg-Gottéron returns to success against Zurich

Four consecutive losses, including three at home, the crisis was rearing its ugly head on the Friborg side. Moment chosen by the Dragons to return to success, Saturday at the BCF Arena, against the ZSC Lions (2-0), thus ending the invincibility of the reigning Swiss champions this season. As for Gottéron, he finally had his first reference match of the Pat Emond era in the National League.

The day after an indigestible performance in Kloten, the Freiburgers had to react and Zurich, deprived of Andrighetto, Malgin and Hollenstein (all injured), proved to be the ideal opponent. The first line Sörensen-Wallmark-Mottet particularly stood out, creating a multitude of chances which had the weight of opening the score.

But the finishing problems seen since the restart still stick to the skin of the Friborg attackers. We had to wait for a gift from Simon Hrubec for the situation to finally resolve itself in a well-deserved way. The Zurich goalkeeper let a shot from Jacob De la Rose (24th, 1-0) slip away.

The rest of the middle period resembled a session at the video club. The referees first logically canceled Willy Riedi’s equalizer due to a high cross. They then initially validated Gottéron’s 2-0. It was finally reviewed, then canceled for offside after the ZSC staff requested a coach challenge.

Nothing more was scored until Nathan Marchon’s success in the empty cage (59th, 2-0). This is thanks to the excellent performance of Reto Berra (35 saves) who vetoed him several times during the last 20 minutes.

Will this victory create the desired trigger? Response Tuesday at the BCF Arena against Genève-Servette.
