Super League: Yverdon wins against Saint-Gall

Deprived of success during their first three outings in the National League, the Genevans launched their season by winning 4-0 in Zealand on Saturday. Friborg and Lausanne also won.

The start of the European champions has been long overdue since the restart. In Bienne, it took Vincent Praplan less than two minutes to put Genève-Servette into orbit. From the 8th minute, the Finnish trio Manninen, Granlund and Hartikainen the scorer had even doubled the advantage of the garnet visitors.

After this first third, which was completely to their advantage, Jan Cadieux’s players seemed set for great success against the very hesitant Biennois. But the latter found a way to avoid the defensive hemorrhage after returning from the locker room. The game was then locked and we had to wait for the counter-attack again orchestrated by the Nordic line of the GSHC to see Manninen put his team to safety (54th). Hartikainen added to the bill in the empty cage (59th)

With these three points, Geneva is one step behind Bienne, which is stagnating in 12th place after its bad weekend.

The Dragons pay for the leader

Fribourg-Gottéron also raised the bar, winning 2-0 at home against leader Zurich Lions. A goal from Jacob de la Rose at the start of the middle period (25th) launched the Dragons on the path to their second success of the season. The match then remained uncertain until the end, before Nathan Marchon ended the suspense with the 2-0 in the empty cage 1’04” from the final siren.

In Rapperswil, where he has not won since 2021, Lausanne has finally put an end to the curse. The Lions won 3-2 after penalties in the den of the Saint-Gallois, who occupied third place in the provisional ranking. It was Jason Fuchs who finally allowed LHC to achieve a four-point weekend, scoring the decisive shot between the pads of Ivars Punnenovs. In regulation time, the Vaudois twice led the score before seeing Rapperswil come back and narrowly miss crucifying them in extra time.

Ajoie loses again

The black streak, however, continued for Ajoie, who suffered his sixth setback in as many games at the hands of Langnau. The Jurassiens lost 4-1 in Emmental, after conceding two shorthanded goals in the opening third. For the Ajoulots, the 2024-2025 financial year promises to be as difficult as the previous one.

On the other rinks, Bern dominated Ambri 4-0, Lugano defeated Kloten 4-2 to take the lead in the standings and Davos punished Zug 6-2 away.
