Formula 1: Qatar Creates and Pierre Gasly, an alliance between art and sport

For the second year in a row, driver Pierre Gasly (Alpine) will sport artistic helmets during key races. A global call to creators.

Motorsport and art are set to meet again under the spotlight of the Formula 1 circuits. Qatar Creates, the initiative dedicated to the cultural promotion of the country, has announced the extension of its partnership with the F1 driver Pierre Gasly, member of the BWT Alpine F1 Team, for the 2024 season. This renewal aims to integrate an artistic dimension into F1 races, by showcasing original helmet designs for two major stages: the Grand Prix of Mexico and that of Qatar.

At the heart of this partnership, Qatar Creates reaffirms its commitment to mixing art and sport, two worlds which, on the surface, have little in common. However, by giving global visibility to artists’ works, this collaboration breaks the usual boundaries. Pierre Gasly, a rising figure in Formula 1, becomes the standard-bearer of this initiative, wearing helmets whose design will be entrusted to designers from around the world.

A global call for projects for three unique creations
For this new season, Qatar Creates is launching a global call for projects, inviting artists to submit their design proposals. Three creations will be selected to be worn during the two races mentioned.

This competition, beyond the purely sporting aspect, gives creators a platform to express their artistic vision on an international stage. These helmets, symbols of a fusion between tradition and innovation, will bring a unique touch to events followed by millions of spectators.

A renewed success after a promising first edition
This partnership had already caused a sensation during the 2023 season, notably thanks to the contributions of artists Alanoud Al Ghamdi and Shouq Al Mana. Their works, inspired by Qatari heritage, had captivated F1 enthusiasts and art lovers. Alanoud Al Ghamdi’s helmet, inspired by desert flora and fauna, was even sold at auction after the October race for charitable purposes, thus consolidating the link between this initiative and social causes.

For Aisha Al-Attiya, director of Qatar Creates, the objective is clear: “This partnership is not just an artistic project. It represents the desire to highlight global talents while creating a dialogue between cultures, disciplines and audiences.” By offering these artists international visibility, Qatar Creates asserts itself as a central player in cultural promotion and support for creators.

A springboard for the global art scene
Formula 1, often perceived as a world strictly focused on technological performance and speed, shows another face here. The helmets, designed as unique works of art, stand out as collector’s items, while being part of a process of sharing and cultural transmission. The 2024 season, with its share of challenges for Pierre Gasly and his team, also promises to be an opportunity to restore an artistic dimension to the competition.

These collaborations symbolize Qatar’s ambition to become a platform where the dialogue between tradition and modernity, between sport and art, takes place at the very heart of the sporting event.

The unveiling of the three winning helmets is eagerly awaited, promising to mark a new milestone in the alliance between art and Formula 1. Pierre Gasly, for his part, is preparing to carry not only the hopes of his team, but also the visions of artists from the four corners of the world, in a unique approach.
