Guardiola criticizes Arsenal’s style of play

Pep Guardiola has hit out at Arsenal’s style of play after Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with the Gunners.

The Premier League summit meeting between Manchester City and Arsenal ended 2-2. Trossard received a red card at the start of the second half, leaving his teammates at 10.

Arsenal then hunkered down in their own half for the entire second half. Manchester City had, for a time, over 90% possession. This until the equalizer in the last minute in stoppage time from John Stones.

A match in which Kai Havertz broke a funnier record.

Pep Guardiola said he congratulated Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on a draw by sending him a text message after the match. But at the same time he added to the media that he would be incapable of making his team play in this way.

Guardiola fatalistic on the game of 10-a-side teams

“We play against a lot of teams that play defensively. Arsenal were 10 against 11. It wasn’t the first time this had happened to us. The teams play like this today. » he declared after the match.

“I told Mikel they did an incredible job. I admire what they did. But I couldn’t do that with my team. »

An ambiguous way of criticizing the way Arsenal fell back in the second half. For him, even at 10 he would keep the same playing philosophy for his team, trying to keep possession and control of the match rather than letting the opponent settle into his camp.

Manchester City is currently 1st in the Premier League with 13 points, Arsenal follows with 11 points. The title will most certainly be played out, for the third consecutive season, between the two teams.
