Strong popular enthusiasm
Even once the ceremony is over and the city’s prizes of honor have been distributed, the four French athletes are more popular than ever. Everyone wants their photo with the champions, to the point of competing with the buffet set up next door. “I’m so proud to be from Bondyn”, proclaims a supporter as she poses around the medalists. Among the evening spectators, there are also novices. Philippe, for example, says he discovered the club thanks to the final against Argentina (1-1, 3-2 in the tabs) last September: “It shed light on blind football.” Since then, like his friends Alex and Slimane, he has moved from 11-a-side football to futsal by joining the Bondy Cécifoot Club, which also welcomes able-bodied people.
