player Pierre Bourgarit out for 4 to 6 months

Victim of a serious injury on Saturday against , Rochelais Pierre Bourgarit will be absent between 4 and 6 months.

international hooker Pierre Bourgarit, who suffered a fractured tibia on Saturday against Pau and underwent surgery, will be sidelined for between four and six months, backs coach Sébastien Boboul announced on Thursday. Bourgarit, who was visited by his teammates and staff on Sunday at the hospital, “is doing very well, he came out late Monday morning, and since Monday he has been with us”, declared Sébastien Boboul at a press conference. “As for his unavailability, it will depend on the healing, but you should expect four to six months.”

Bourgarit suffered a serious shin injury after a regular tackle from his former teammate Rémi Picquette today in Pau just before half-time. It is his second major injury this year after the one he picked up in his shoulder in January which forced him to rest for six months. “He’s been unlucky for two years,” Boboul summed up. “It’s part of a career to have lows like that (…) We’re going to give him two or three things to do to keep him interested.”

La Rochelle does not plan to recruit a medical joker to replace him and should trust its youngsters. Compared to the winners of the Section paloise (49-25), the club with the caravel only records one return, that of the Samoan center UJ Seuteni for the trip to Créteil on Saturday where it will face Racing 92. The New Zealand scrum-half Tawera Kerr-Barlow, who is recovering from a calf injury, was deemed too short and the Fijian flanker Levani Botia, absent since May with a broken forearm, has not yet been given the green light to resume contact rugby.
