While OM had asked to remove Leonardo Balerdi’s second yellow card against OL, and consequently his expulsion, the disciplinary committee did not follow this request. The Argentinian is suspended for one match.
The LFP Disciplinary Committee has ruled. Meeting on Wednesday, September 25, the body decided to uphold the second yellow card given to Leonardo Balerdi on Sunday during OM’s stunning victory over OL (3-2). The Marseille club had requested that this warning be removed, and consequently the expulsion.
The sanction is therefore maintained and the Argentinian defender is suspended for one match. He will miss OM’s trip to Strasbourg on Sunday at the end of the 6th day of Ligue 1 (8:45 p.m.).
An expulsion that provoked the anger of Benatia
Against OL, the expulsion of Balerdi, who received two yellow cards in the first five minutes of this Olympico, provoked the anger of the Marseille leaders. At half-time, Medhi Benatia verbally attacked the referees in the corridors of the Groupama Stadium. The OM sports advisor then added another layer to the microphone of DAZN, strongly criticizing the appointment of Benoît Bastien as main referee of this match.
The Marseille sports advisor’s comments earned him a summons before the LFP’s disciplinary committee, seized by the National Ethics Council. According to AFP, the Olympian manager will be heard next week.
