” The purpose of this letter being to appeal to your common sense and your sense of fairness, we are not going to – at this stage – develop a detailed legal argument establishing that the rule in question, as applied in this case, is illegal and that Mrs Congost should indeed receive the bronze medal that she legitimately won, after a hard fight, on the road and on the track. (which does not mean in any way that this medal should be withdrawn from the athlete who came 4th: again, common sense and fairness easily allow us to consider that – in this case – awarding a bronze medal to both Mrs Congost and her competitor would be the best solution)”, wrote Jean-Louis Dupont and Martin Hissel, Elena Congost’s lawyers, who have therefore not yet initiated legal proceedings.
