Joshua’s killer will fight ‘the highest paying’

Englishman Daniel Dubois, who retained his IBF heavyweight title on Saturday against Anthony Joshua, would “love a rematch” against Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk, whichever “pays me more”, he told talkSPORT radio on Tuesday.

“I would love a rematch, but it will be against whoever pays me the most,” said the 27-year-old Londoner.

On Saturday, he made a big impression by retaining his IBF heavyweight title in fine style, brutally knocking out Anthony Joshua, 34, in the fifth round at Wembley, after knocking him down four times in total.

Dubois is ready to offer a rematch to Joshua, a former double world champion: “If that happens, then yes, I want to go for it. I want to do even better next time. As a champion and a fighter, I want to prove people wrong every time and that’s what we did (Saturday).”

Following his defeat, Joshua insisted his career was far from over, and that a potential rematch against Dubois as well as another clash against Tyson Fury were possible options for future fights.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren said that while there is no specific clause in his fighter’s contract for a quick rematch with Joshua, the two men could meet again if an agreement is reached.

Dubois was previously beaten by Usyk in August 2023, although he managed to knock the Ukrainian down in the fifth round, but the punch was ruled a low blow, so Usyk had more time to recover.

In this heavyweight category, the main fight at the end of the year will be that between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury for a rematch on December 21 for the WBA, WBO and WBC belts.
