Anderlecht was able to count on the advice of former players… from Genk and RWDM: “We are ready for Ferencvaros” – All football

David Hubert has had a good analysis of Ferencvaros, who travel to Lotto Park this Wednesday for the first day of the Europa League. He was able to count on the advice of some friends.

We wrote it earlier on Tuesday: Anderlecht would be well advised to be wary of Ferencvaros, Hungarian champion for 6 seasons and undefeated in the league when they travel to Lotto Park. The Budapest club is not a bird for the cat.

“They are a good team. They have a good mix of experience and different profiles: an experienced goalkeeper, speed on the wings, a very strong striker up front, Hungarian international,” begins David Hubert mentioning Barnabas Varga, 3 goals in 5 games this season and 16 caps (7 goals) with Hungary. “At this stage of the competition, of course, all teams have something positive to show.”

Of course, Ferencvaros and the Hungarian league are not very well known in Belgium – even though KRC Genk played the Hungarian champions twice last season in the Conference League. It was in large part… from Genk that David Hubert brought his consultants for this match. Not today’s Genk, though.

Tözsér, Köteles and Mercier to the rescue

“Luckily, I have a lot of Hungarian friends,” smiles the interim coach of RSC Anderlecht. “I played with a few Hungarian players at Genk: Balázs Tóth, Daniel Tözsér and Laszlo Köteles helped me a lot. And Xavier Mercier, with whom I played at OHL, came through Ferencvaros. So I had a few spies (smiles).”

Hubert also used all the footage at his disposal. “We watched their last 4 games. So we are actually very well prepared,” he concludes with a smile to the Hungarian journalists who question him.
