McLaren driver Lando Norris set the fastest time in the second free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix in 1.30.727 (Soft), the Briton ahead of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari (Soft) by 58 thousandths and Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari (Soft) by six tenths.
Yuki Tsunoda, Oscar Piastri, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell, Sergio Perez, Alex Albon and Nico Hülkenberg completed the top ten in this final free practice session of the day in Singapore.
Representative conditions
Unlike the FP1s held earlier during the day, these FP2s were held in conditions representative of those the drivers will encounter during qualifying and the race (at night). The teams therefore really started to work on pure performance during this second session of the weekend in Singapore.
Hamilton in trouble
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has appeared to be struggling in his Mercedes since the start of the weekend in Singapore. The Briton – who finished outside the top ten in FP1 – struggled to put in a clean lap in FP2. He finished the session in eleventh place, almost a second behind Lando Norris’ McLaren.
Verstappen also in difficulty
Much like last weekend in Baku, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen had great difficulty staying on track with his car during FP2. The Dutchman made several mistakes that he never made before, with the triple world champion even getting annoyed on the radio at times by indicating that he had no grip. The current world championship leader finished this session in fifteenth place.
Russell in the wall
At the end of the session, George Russell hit the Tec Pro barriers with the nose of his Mercedes. The Briton managed to get back on track to return to the pits slowly. Not too much damage to the W15, which can be repaired by tomorrow.
The next free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix [EL3] is scheduled for this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (Paris time) and will be available to follow live on our site at this address.
