The decisive fight of an Iranian judoka at the cinema, a museum boat in Tangier, fado in Rabat… the releases of the week – Telquel.ma

Final fight

Movie theater. Iranian cinema continues its conquest of the world. With Tatami, Directors Guy Nattiv and Zar Amir Ebrahimi delve into the world of judo, and create a film that mixes sport and politics.

An Iranian judoka named Leila is participating in the world judo championship, and is aiming at all costs for the gold medal, which would be a first for Iran. At her side is her coach, Maryam, played by Zar Amir herself, the latter having also won the Best Actress Award at the Film Festival for The Nights of Mashhad in 2022.

In the middle of the competition, an ultimatum is imposed on them by the Iranian government: Leïla is ordered to fake an injury and forfeit the rest of the championship. Just a few steps away from achieving her greatest dream, the high-level athlete is faced with a Cornelian dilemma: give up and buy herself some security, or give everything at the risk of losing everything?
