The Swiss mixed relay without Küng or Schmid – rts.ch

Switzerland will have to defend its title in the mixed team time trial at the Zurich World Championships without Stefan Küng and Mauro Schmid next Wednesday. Both men will take it easy.

The decision taken by the Swiss Cycling officials at the request of Küng and Schmid has its origins in the Vuelta a España. The Thurgauer – who will compete in the individual time trial on Sunday – and the Bernese rider have performed excellently during the 3 weeks of the Vuelta but have also used up a lot of energy.

The two men prefer to bet on the road race of the World Championships. On Sunday 29th, they will have to overcome almost 4,500 meters of altitude difference over a 274-kilometer course for an enormous amount of work.

In place of Küng and Schmid, who were part of the team that won the world championship the previous two years, Johan Jacobs and Silvan Dillier, along with time trial specialist Stefan Bissegger, will form the men’s trio that will tackle the 27 km loop. In the women’s category, Switzerland will be represented as expected by Elise Chabbey, Elena Hartmann and Noemi Rüegg.
