NHL: Robin Lehner fails to report for medical; Golden Knights considering options

The Vegas Golden Knights are considering options regarding the status of goaltender Robin Lehner after he failed to report to the opening of training camp on Wednesday to confirm his ineligibility to play in 2024-25.

At least that’s what informant Frank Seravalli, from DailyFaceoff.com.

The Knights have reportedly consulted with NHL officials on the matter, and they have begun communicating with the Players’ Association to determine what to do next given these rather unusual circumstances.

Lehner, 33, has not played in the Bettman Tour since April 20, 2022, and is expected to miss a third straight full season.

The veteran Swedish goalkeeper underwent surgery in August 2022.

He is reportedly entering the final year of a five-year, $25 million deal, and is expected to receive a salary of $4.5 million.

An immediate end to Lehner’s deal is reportedly an avenue being considered by Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon.

There is a lot to gain for the Knights if this move is allowed by the NHL. In addition to absolving itself of a $4.5 million payment, the Nevada team would free up $5 million on its payroll, in addition to avoiding starting another season by having to use the long-term injured list.
