The former tough guy has accepted a position as a professional scout with the Alberta team, with which he played seven seasons during his career in the Bettman circuit.

The man who also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes and, very briefly, the Montreal Canadiens announced his retirement from the National Hockey League after 12 seasons last October. He still laced up his skates in 2023-2024, playing eight games with a Czech team before leaving the team.

He finished his NHL career with 203 points and 913 penalty minutes in 661 games.

But, CH fans especially remember his brief stint in Montreal during the 2015-2016 season. Before the start of the regular season, he was involved in a car accident with two women in the Quebec metropolis. He suffered fractures to his nose and left foot, he who was also intoxicated.

Suspended, he had to report to the NHL’s substance abuse assistance program. The Canadiens traded him a few months later to the Oilers.

Kassian also suffered a beating in front of Arber Xhekaj in a fight that was entirely to the advantage of the Canadian colossus during the 2022-2023 season, his last in the NHL.
