Back to Anderlecht? Vanhaezebrouck reacts

Brian Riemer’s position within the club is quite complicated. If the team fails again on Saturday in the home game against Sporting Charleroi, the Danish coach could well be fired. Everyone is wondering who could replace him.

The most successful club in the Jupiler Pro League had narrowly missed out on the title at the end of last season, but was nevertheless very pleased with the progress made. The confidence in Riemer had therefore been maintained, and he could of course count on the support of his compatriot and sporting director, Jesper Fredberg. Internally, there was hope that the team and the level of play would improve.

NO PROGRESS

However, this is not at all the case at the moment. Compared to the start of the competition, there is little visible progress in the Mauves’ game, while the season has already been well underway for two months. And now that the results are starting to deteriorate, Riemer’s role is increasingly threatened.

The coach has been in charge of RSCA for almost two years. During this time, he has never really managed to dispel the skepticism towards him. Riemer is certainly a likeable man and has the qualities necessary to manage individuals. But on a tactical level, he has not left a good impression. He also seems to have difficulty improving players individually.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE?

The patience of the fans is therefore about to run out. The “Riemer out” messages, which have been echoing for several weeks, are becoming louder and more numerous. So far, he still enjoys the support of the management, especially Fredberg. But if the situation deteriorates further on Saturday against Charleroi, Riemer’s days at the helm of the team seem numbered.

In the event of dismissal, however, the sports management will have to find a suitable replacement. This is not easy given that the season is well advanced and RSCA will play almost two games per week in the coming weeks. The ideal would therefore be someone with relevant experience, who knows the club and the competition, in order to reduce the adaptation period to a minimum.

HEIN VANHAEZEBROUCK DOES NOT WANT

However, such profiles are currently rare. Hein Vanhaezebrouck meets these criteria. He had already managed RSCA between autumn 2017 and the end of 2018, although this experience was not a great success. He is not, however, interested in a return to Lotto Park. On Tuesday evening, during the Champions League debriefing on Play Sports, the current analyst joked when asked whether he would be interested in the position. “No, no, I am far too happy here,” he answered clearly.
