Ukrainian world champion Usyk handcuffed in Polish airport, Zelensky defends him

In a video published by the Ukrainian media UNITED24the boxer is filmed being handcuffed at Krakow airport in Poland. On social media, Usyk quickly reacted by referring to a “misunderstanding” while Ukrainian President Zelensky also defended him.

The image has gone around the world. In a video published on social networks by the Ukrainian media UNITED24undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is filmed being handcuffed at Krakow airport in Poland. As of yet, no information has been leaked regarding his arrest and the 37-year-old boxer has been released.

On the other hand, Oleksandr Usyk was quick to react on social networks and reassured his community. “Dear friends. A misunderstanding has occurred. It was quickly resolved. Thanks to all those who felt concerned. Thanks to Ukrainian politicians for their effective support.”wrote the latter on X.

“Today, everything is fine”

But the world heavyweight champion was able to count on the support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “I spoke to Oleksandr Usyk on the phone after his arrest. I was disappointed by this attitude towards our citizen and champion. I asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, to immediately look into all the details of the incident at the Krakow airport.”

Before continuing: “Today everything is fine, our champion has been released and is no longer detained. In the photo he is with our Consul General in Krakow just after his release.”.
