If there is one thing that cannot be criticized about Domenico Tedeco, it is that he dares to give young Belgian talents a chance. During the last international break, he did not hesitate to select Arne Engels and Julien Duranville.
Duranville’s selection was particularly surprising. Indeed, the player trained at Anderlecht hardly plays at Dortmund. Most of the time, he is either injured or on the bench.
Huge potential
Despite this, the 18-year-old winger was able to get some minutes of playing time against Israel and France. And it’s fair to say that Duranville left a good impression. He hurt his opponents with his speed and dribbling skills.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck remains surprised to have seen him join the national team so quickly: “This boy has potential, but it’s not a good thing that he already has minutes in the national team. When I see what is said about him, I tell myself that people are making too much of it.”
He doesn’t play enough
Before continuing: “Apart from 31 minutes in the cup, he hasn’t played a minute in a Dortmund shirt this season. There are still several players ahead of him in the hierarchy. A guy like Jamie Gitten, 20, scored twice against Frankfurt when he came on in the second half. So, unless it’s 0-3, Duranville might not even come on.”
