“He distorted the match”… Burundi files complaint against the referee after a penalty awarded to Senegal

Not happy – Senegal won in Burundi (0-1) thanks to a penalty goal. Unhappy with the referee’s decision, the host country filed a complaint against him

Some are making a small complaint, after a referee’s decision was deemed contentious. Burundi went a little further. The Central African country decided to file a complaint against the man with the whistle who officiated during Burundi-Senegal, Mohamed Maarouf Eid Mansour, counting for the qualifications for the CAN 2025. The Egyptian whistled a penalty in the 66th minute of play, converted by Ismaïla Sarr, which gave the victory to the visitors.

“In a letter addressed to the CAF Secretary General, the FFB protests against the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Senegal in the 66th minute, when there was no foul, no contact between a Burundian player and Senegal’s number 10 player, who was not in the penalty area,” explains the Burundian Federation on X (formerly Twitter).
