US Open > Medvedev: “I honestly thought Carlos Alcaraz was going to beat Djokovic in the Olympic final. Novak really impressed me”

Asked about Novak Djokovic’s victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Paris Olympic Games during his press conference after his victory in the first round of the US Open against Lajovic (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1), Daniil Medvedev expressed his admiration for the mental strength and the quality of the Serb’s match.

“For me, unfortunately I didn’t see the Olympics match. I was in Montreal, jet lag. I think I had a training session or something. But for me, personally, the way Carlos approached the match, the fact that he won Roland Garros, Wimbledon against Novak, that he played amazing at the Olympics, I honestly thought he was going to win. Then Novak at 37. I saw some highlights. He played maybe the best match of the season. I was really impressed by his ability to go into that match where there’s a lot of pressure – it’s the only thing he’s never won – and be even better, and beat Carlos, who was unstoppable. I was even more amazed, even though I’m already amazed by Novak. So, yeah, incredible, and there’s not much more I can add.”
