Kevin De Bruyne (33 years old) will still be one of the pillars of the Red Devils during this Nations League, and also during the qualifications for the World Cup. But is he already thinking about an international retirement?
14 years with the Red Devils, 105 selections, 28 goals and 49 assists. A colossal total for Kevin De Bruynewho is undoubtedly one of the greatest players in the history of Belgian football.
But at 33, the Drongen native is now closer to the end of his career than the beginning. In an interview with The Latest Newshe explained that he briefly thought about quitting the national team after the Euro.
Kevin De Bruyne discusses…his international retirement
“For a while, but I still feel good. And if you still want to play in the World Cup, you can’t say you’re not available for the national team for a year and then want to be called up again. I will never do that. It’s not right for the group.”
And then? In 2026, the year of the World Cup, De Bruyne will already be 35 years old. He has not hidden it: he is probably living his last years as a Devil.
“Whether I will stay (after the World Cup)? My choice is not yet made. I don’t know how I will feel in two years, but let’s be realistic. In 2026, I will be 35 years old.”
