PARALYMPIC GAMES – He was one of the two big favorites for this road race. Florian Jouanny, 32, became this Thursday, September 5, Paralympic road race champion, ahead of the Spaniard Sergio Garrote Munoz. Despite more than gloomy weather, the native of Échirolles finished the course, shortened by one lap, in 1h20 minutes and 18 seconds.

Paralympic Games medal table: here’s where the French team stands in the rankings

The avalanche of medals continues for the French para-cycling team, who have already won no fewer than 11 medals in the various time trial events on Wednesday. This is the 16th gold medal for the French delegation in these Games, which is already more than in Tokyo in 2021.

Florian Jouanny, who lost the use of his legs following a skiing accident in 2011, was the reigning Paralympic champion after his victory in this event in Tokyo. The athlete had also won the 2023 world championships in Glasgow, in the time trial and the road race. In his category, athletes use a “handibike”, a recumbent bike that they propel using the strength of their upper body.
