The British genius capable of designing revolutionary single-seaters will join Aston Martin, which has given him a golden bridge.

He was expected at Ferrari in the wake of Lewis Hamilton who will join the Italian team at the end of the season. Adrian Newey, the most sought-after engineer in the paddock, should finally join Aston Martin, announces Autosport . The arrival of the 65-year-old Briton, who has won everywhere he has been: Williams, McLaren and Red Bull where he settled in 2006, winning no less than six constructors’ world crowns and seven drivers’ world crowns with the Milton Keynes team, is only a matter of days. His recruitment should take place before the next grand prix, in Azerbaijan, next week. A press conference has been announced for next Tuesday…

A stratospheric salary

To convince Newey to come, Aston Martin had to be very persuasive. Le Telegraph mentions an annual salary of 25 million pounds, or 30 million euros! Emoluments that could make Newey the fourth highest paid man in the paddock, all functions combined (if we put aside some of the very rich team owners of course), behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull, around 50 million euros), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, around 41 million euros) and Charles Leclerc (around 31 million euros).

Newey also knows that he will be arriving in an ambitious team, with the old lion Fernando Alonso and the Canadian Lance Stroll in the two single-seaters. A team that is also stagnating in the hierarchy this season (5th place in the constructors’ championship like last year but with zero podiums compared to eight last year) and which announced this summer the arrival next year of Enrico Cardile, the technical director of the chassis department in Maranello and an employee of the Scuderia for almost 20 years.

We are building a great team

Lawrence Stroll

“I am delighted that we continue to attract world-class talent to our team (…) We are building a formidable team”enthused Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, who had already had the formation of this duo in mind for several weeks, Newey having announced his departure from Red Bull in May.

A single-seater designed by Newey expected for 2026

Once the recruitment is official (a clause prevented Newey from announcing his new destination before September), the engineer will have to wait six months before settling into his new offices at Silverstone. This will certainly not prevent him from thinking about the single-seater expected for 2026 with new technical regulations that should offer a redistribution of the cards on the grid. For 2025, on the other hand, a miracle would be needed to propel Aston Martin to the front of the grid. The next version of the Aston Martin and its Ferrari engine should only be an evolution of the current AM24. But Adrian Newey has already performed a good number of magic tricks during his rich career.
