FOOTBALL – Peter Gerhardsson perhaps had his mind elsewhere? On the eve of the semi-final against Spain at the Women’s World Cup, the Swedish coach caused general hilarity on Monday August 14 by trying to get out of the press conference room… By a closet.
The scene, filmed, was shared by a sports news site called Fotbollskanalen on Twitter. In a blue and yellow down jacket, Peter Gerhardsson descends from the platform from which he answered questions from journalists before the shock against Spain at the world championship which takes place in Australia and New Zealand.

He passes a closed double-door, goes to the side of the room and goes to another opening on his left. A journalist and a cameraman watch him without saying anything. The coach opens the door but discovers only shelves and household products: what he thought was the exit was in fact a broom cupboard.
Sweden already have a brilliant track record
It’s only when Peter Gerhardsson realizes his mistake and comes out of the closet that the cameraman shows him the real way out, under the amused gaze of the other journalists.
One of them, Amanda Zaza, shared on Twitter this moment which made her laugh a lot. “Here’s a nugget from today’s press conference: Peter Gerhardsson walks into a closet instead of leaving”, she wrote on the social network. The coach of the Swedish team finally left the room, laughing too.

The Scandinavians, third in the FIFA world rankings, are used to joining the last four but have still not won a major trophy. This year, they nevertheless had a brilliant run by eliminating the Americans, defending champions and favorites in the competition, in the eighth, then in the quarters the Japanese, crowned in 2011.
