The Spanish pilot Pol Espargaro, seriously injured last Friday during free 2 of the MotoGP Portuguese GP is currently hospitalized and should remain so for a while. Nevertheless, the first assessment carried out by the doctors excludes paralysis, a time feared. However, the Gas-Gas pilot suffered from pulmonary contusions, a broken jaw and a fractured dorsal vertebra.

Dr. Charter also indicates that because of his pulmonary contusions, the person concerned will have to undergo CT scans and MRIs at Faro hospital.
” He suffered severe spinal trauma and lung contusion, which we will have to watch closely. Although I believe he will make a good recovery, we need to carry out the appropriate tests to determine the extent of his injuries. He is aware, alert and responsive. He is lightly sedated from the painkillers we gave him. He can move his feet, legs and arms perfectly, so there is no reason to fear a permanent spinal injury.”
Obviously, Pol Espargaro’s participation in the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix is totally compromised. Sad way to start a season although we can be happy that the Spaniard is still alive and likely to recover fully, probably in the medium term from his injuries.
