During these Paralympic Games, 36,000 tickets sold were purchased by people with disabilities, and just under 20,000 for last month’s games. While the venues have been designed to facilitate access to the stands for people with reduced mobility, other measures have been put in place by Paris 2024 to enable people with specific needs to experience the events.

To welcome a visitor with a disability, the first key is the training of teams, including the 45,000 volunteers.

« A very concrete example, when we accompany a person who cannot see, we identify ourselves, we tell them where we are and we ask them how they would like to be accompanied. Does she prefer to hold out her arm, or does she prefer, for example, that the guide dog follow us? And then also concretely, how do we communicate with a person who cannot hear? There is no point in shouting. On the contrary, we can definitely use a piece of paper, a pencil if we really cannot get used to it. So these are tips, that is easy”, summarizes Ludivine Munos, responsible for the Paralympic integration of the Games.

A technological watch

To experience the events, audio description and interactive tablets are available for the visually impaired, or a magnetic induction loop for the hearing impaired.
