The FFR breaks its silence. While Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou have been authorized to return to France by the Argentinian justice system, the FFR reacts to this news with a press release published this Tuesday evening. “The French Rugby Federation welcomes with satisfaction the decision of the Argentinian prosecutor’s office authorizing the return to France, to their loved ones and their clubs, of its two internationals Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou,” it indicates.

Since the beginning of the case and the indictment of the two French XV players for aggravated rape, the FFR has “wanted to listen to the complainant, but also to constantly remind the two players of the presumption of innocence, who have always proclaimed their innocence”. The Federation welcomes the decision of the Argentine justice system, “a new step towards the judicial truth of the facts.”

Both players will have to respect certain rules in France

Still under investigation, Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou are hoping for a dismissal in this case. For that, they will have to wait a few days for the public prosecutor of Mendoza to make a decision. As for the terms of a return to the field, the leaders of Pau and La Rochelle are waiting to talk with their players.

In a statement, the maritime club said it was “relieved and impatient” to find Oscar Jegou. “This return of the players to France marks a new important step on the path to truth that we share with the FFR and the Section Paloise. We are calmly awaiting the holding of the next hearing which will allow us to prove their innocence, of which we have been convinced since the first days.”

For its part, the Pau Section welcomes “with joy and relief the return to French territory” of Hugo Auradou. “This is a further step towards the recognition of his innocence.”

The spokesperson for the Mendoza provincial justice system recalled on Tuesday that the green light given to the players’ return to France by the prosecution is accompanied by “rules”, in particular “to present themselves if they are summoned to the Argentine consulate in France”, to present themselves in virtual mode “as often as required”, or even to return “to Mendoza (1000km from Buenos Aires) if this is requested of them”.
