This is also what the Paralympic Games are all about. During the group match of the blind football competition between France and the Brazilian giant, the grandiose stadium of the Eiffel Tower offered a suspended moment, a moment of real poetry.

The crowd, excited for this gala match for the Blues against the Auriverdes – the Seleçao has won all the Paralympic titles up for grabs since the advent of blind football (5) -, burst into a silent wave, which lasted for several long seconds.

Some (very) loud waves too

As a reminder, deprived of sight, blind football players rely on their ears to find their way around the field and move using a sound ball which must be sent into the opposing goal.

Despite the support of this great crowd, which alternated between moments of silence during the game and bursts of jubilation outside – and a few much louder waves this time! – the French team lost to a stronger team (3-0). However, Les Bleus will still have their destiny in their own hands on Tuesday (8:30 p.m.) against Turkey: they will play in the semi-finals if they win their last group match.
