Starting last, the Brazilian came back through the field to win the Monza GP. Leading the way, Frenchman Hadjar finished 11th.

Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta) won the main race of the Formula 2 Italian GP after starting last and gained 25 points on French championship leader Isack Hadjar (Campos), who was only 11th on Sunday.

The 2023 F3 world champion, who started in 22nd position, took advantage of the early intervention of the safety car to virtually take the lead. The 19-year-old Brazilian then dominated the end of the race to take an unexpected and precious victory, as he reduced the gap to Hadjar by 25 points, who now has just 10.5 points with three weekends to go in the season. It is the first time in F2 history that a driver who started last in a race has managed to win.

“I have no words to describe what I feel… This morning I had dreamed of this situation because we had an incredible pace this weekend, we had less than 1% chance but it happened, it’s unreal”Bortoleto said.

After missing his start, Hadjar then lost a lot of time during his pit stop to change tires and eventually ended up in 11th place, just outside the points. On Saturday during the sprint race, he had suffered an engine problem and had already finished outside the points.
