The para-triathlon events of the Paralympic Games, postponed by a day because of the poor quality of the Seine, will take place on Monday morning, the organizers confirmed, after noting an improvement in the situation.

“The results analyzed today (Sunday), combined with the online and real-time monitoring system of the microbiological quality of the water, indicate that the quality of the water continues to improve”specifies a press release sent to AFP, and “will comply with the thresholds set by World Triathlon on race day”. All 11 para-triathlon events scheduled to take place on Sunday were postponed by one day due to a “deterioration of the water quality of the Seine”following rainy episodes in the capital.

Initially, the events, which start and finish at the Pont Alexandre-III, were to take place over two days, on September 1 and 2. They were grouped together according to an announcement made on Thursday, again as a precautionary measure with regard to the weather. Two training sessions in the Seine were able to take place on Thursday and Friday morning, before a final one was cancelled on Saturday.

The course of the event consists of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of para-cycling and five kilometers of running. During the Olympics, several triathlon and open water swimming training sessions were cancelled and the men’s triathlon was also postponed by a day due to water unsuitable for swimming. Due to heavy rainfall.
