Denmark and Germany qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Handball World Cup on Thursday by beating Switzerland and Italy respectively. They join among those qualified for the quarter-finals.

Denmark, three-time defending champion, and Germany qualified on Thursday like France for the quarter-finals of the World Handball World Cup before their last match of the main round. The Danes swept Switzerland (39-28) in front of their home crowd in Herning to lock first place in Group I, ahead of the Germans who won over the Italians (34-27) despite good resistance in the first period (15-13 for the Mannschaft at half-time). However, there is still one ticket to be taken in Group II in Varazdin (Croatia), behind France, assured of finishing first after its success against the Netherlands (35-28). It should return to Hungary, which ended up wearing out Austria (29-26) and will qualify if successful on Saturday against Qatar. The Magyars (5 pts), second one point ahead of the Netherlands (opposed to Austria, eliminated) and North Macedonia (which will challenge France), could even reach the quarters in the event of a draw or even a defeat depending on other results.
