There are some reconversions that are more improbable than others. That of the international with 80 selections (9 goals), even if it is only temporary, is carried out within the citizen reserve of the 3rd foreign infantry regiment (REI), as an officer.
Now 44 years old, Florent Malouda is on a mission in Kourou. It is integrated into a service described by the French government as “a device which allows civilian personalities to highlight the values of the missions of the military institution.”
The Frenchman had moved from Cayenne to Paris as a teenager. But once his sporting career ended, he returned to the country. His hometown still looms large, as he showed in his latest Instagram post.
Florent Malouda captioned his post: “While passing through the Amazon in my home territory, I was able to follow an initiation during the CEFE Authorities course of the 3rd REI at the Equatorial Forest Training Center. Thank you for this moment of cohesion and for these values of team spirit in the face of adversity. These are essential values in high-level sport. Thank you to the Armed Forces of Guyana for their commitment to actions aimed at the youth of Guyana.”
The French striker therefore played 193 matches with Olympique Lyonnais and 229 matches for Chelsea, with whom he won the Champions League in 2012.
-He was also international and wore the colors of… two teams: 80 times for France, and four times for French Guiana in 2017.
