The sixth day of the group stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup delivered its epilogue this Sunday. Update on the different results of the last group matches.
Group A: disappointment for Constantine
In a match between qualifiers, Simba SC beat CS Constantine 2-0. This victory allows the Tanzanians to take first place in Group A from the Algerians on the wire and with a small point lead, which potentially guarantees them a more favorable draw for the quarter-finals.
Already eliminated, CS Sfaxien, the most successful club in the history of the competition, crushed Bravos do Maquis 4-0 to achieve their only continental victory of the season.
Group B: Berkane, undefeated leader
Already qualified and assured of first place, RS Berkane crushed Stellenbosch FC with a score of 5-0. Oussama Lamlioui opened the scoring (7th), followed by Youssef Mehri (15th). In the second half, Paul Bassene scored twice (66th, 84th), while Youssef Zghoudi also scored (79th).
This resounding victory confirms the domination of Berkane in group B, since the Moroccans finish undefeated with 16 points. Despite their status as runners-up, the South Africans from Stellenbosch were already qualified as second in group B, with 9 points. Stade Malien, for its part, lost at home against Lunda Sul, by the smallest of margins (0-1) and finished last.
-Group C: ASEC grills Jaraaf on the wire
ASEC is doing well. THE Ivorians qualified with a resounding 4-0 victory over Botswana side Orapa United. Celestine Ecua opened the scoring just before the break, then doubled the lead on the hour mark. Armand Dagou (79th) and Armand Diarrassouba then widened the gap.
Except that, for a long time, this card was not enough since Jaraaf, who had beaten and overtaken ASEC in 2nd place the previous day, held the draw point, synonymous with qualification, on the field of the USM Algiers. Finally, the Algerians won at the end: Ismail Belkacemi opened the scoring in the 81st minute, then increased the score in the 97th thanks to Saadi Radouani, shattering the hopes of qualification of the Senegalese club, beaten 2-0 while the ASEC was overwhelmed with joy.
The Algerians therefore finished first in the group with 14 points, demonstrating their domination. Jaraaf believed in it but was overtaken by ASEC, who finished with the same number of points but was ahead of them in the direct confrontations (2-0, 0-1).
Group D: Egypt strikes a double blow
The two clubs Egyptians achieved their double, by achieving victory, respectively against Enyimba for Zamalek (3-1), holding and already qualified, and against the Black Bulls on the side of Al Masry (3-1). Clubs from Nigeria (5 points) and Mozambique (4 points) both had a chance of qualifying if they performed well, but second place was secured by the Masrys, with 9 points.
