Visibly frustrated to see his team’s chances of a victorious comeback reduced to nothing on Saturday, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid obtained a telephone meeting with the National League player safety department.

In a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks, number 97 once again made a questionable gesture which also earned him a game misconduct. With a few seconds left in the clash, he delivered a double-check to Conor Garland after the two men had battled together for several seconds, while the Oilers tried to tie the game.

If McDavid’s blow did not really have an impact on the outcome of the match, it will have more on the coming days for his club. On Sunday morning, league authorities confirmed that the principal concerned would have to present his arguments at a later time, which should mean being sidelined.
The forward has already received a suspension earlier in his career: in February 2019, he hit Nick Leddy of the New York Islanders in the head, following which the league sanctioned him for two games.

Recently, the star skater got off lightly, as on Wednesday he collided with Marcus Johansson of the Minnesota Wild in the face. Even if the latter left the duel without returning to the game, McDavid was not punished by the referees or by the Bettman circuit.
