Will CH recover against the Rangers?

Stunned by the Toronto Maple Leafs’ seven consecutive goals at his expense the day before, the Montreal Canadiens will try to save their weekend when the New York Rangers visit the Bell Center on Sunday.

The Habs thought they were heading for an easy victory after taking a 3-0 lead in the first period against the Leafs, but they came back strongly with five goals in the third period. Toronto won 7-3 to sign a second victory in a row.

Just like Saturday, the CH will not hold morning training and its head instructor Martin St-Louis will speak with journalists around 4:30 p.m. Samuel Montembeault had a difficult evening on Saturday and we must obviously expect to see Jakub Dobes compete against the Blueshirts. The Czech won his first four career starts in the National League.

The timing of the Rangers’ visit to town is not necessarily ideal for the CH. Indeed, pilot Peter Laviolette’s men these days look more like the top club that most observers expected to see in action this year. Having blanked the Blue Jackets 1-0 in a shootout before coming to Montreal, the New York team has collected 12 points out of a possible 14 in its last seven games. Igor Shesterkin played in the match against Columbus and Jonathan Quick may well find himself between the posts against CH, whom he defeated 4-3 at Madison Square Garden on November 30.

Without question, this is a four-point game. The Habs are 10th in the Eastern Association with 48 points, one more than their rivals of the day.
