David defeated Goliath. On Wednesday January 15, 2025, a good part of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France was played. Among them, the FC Annecy, resident of Ligue 2, was the big favorite against the Briochin Stadium, which plays in National 2, two levels below.
But in a football match, anything is possible over 90 minutes, and the Bretons proved it.
Annecy led a good part of the match
In a match which ended on penalties, Annecy managed to quickly take the lead, opening the score after around ten minutes. But they gave in after the break, allowing the Briochins to come back on level terms, before better managing the decisive penalty shootout.
“I am very disappointed because I think we had started well,” explains Laurent Guyot on the club website. I knew it was going to be very close, it was. We said at half-time that we should not make mistakes or at least not pay for them and take advantage of those of the opponent. We made a few mistakes, not obvious ones, we were more consistent than what we did last Friday. »
Annecy is not the only head to have fallen during these 16th. Among the big moves made by “little ones”, we can note the feat of FC Bourgoin-Jallieu (N3) against Lyon, or the victories of QRM (N1) against Angers and Cannes (N2) against Lorient.
FC Espaly (N3) believed in it for a long time against PSG, before losing in the final moments.
Annecy will be back on the field next Monday, with a trip to Troyes for Ligue 2.
