LPHF: The New York Sirens have the last word on the Minnesota Frost in a shootout

The New York Sirens managed to save themselves with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Minnesota Frost in the only game in the Professional Women’s Hockey League on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-1 late in the game, New York managed to tie the game thanks to a goal from Sarah Fillier, her fifth of the season, with 61 seconds left in regulation to force overtime at the Prudential Center in front of 1,780 spectators.

This victory allows the Sirens to move within one point of the Montreal Victory in second place in the league. As for Frost, he adds a point to his record, which allows him to have a three-point lead at the top of the circuit.

New York opened the scoring through Paetyn Levis in the first period.

The Frost then took the lead with a two-goal production. Kendall Coyne Schofield first tied the game early in the second and Mellissa Channell-Watkins put her team ahead midway through the third until Filier tied the score for good.

Towards the end of overtime, Denisa Křížová was stunned after a hit by Sirens captain Micah Zandee-Hart at center ice. On the sequence, Křížová went to hit the boards and needed help to return to the bench.

In the play-off, New York had the last word 3-2 after seven rounds of shooting.

Corinne Schroeder faced 30 shots in the victory while Maddie Rooney faced 34 shots.
